Ultraviolet (UV) Purification Systems
Ultraviolet systems can destroy 99.99% of harmful microorganisms without adding chemicals or changing your water’s taste or odor. A safe, clean, easy-to-maintain
method of assuring that water is free of bacteria, it is one of the four methods of disinfection approved by the United States FDA. Briefly, Ultraviolet or “UV” is a type of energy found in the electromagnetic spectrum, lying between x-rays and visible light. It is one of the four methods of disinfection approved by the United States FDA. UV disinfects when its light comes into contact with microorganisms. The Ultraviolet energy attacks the genetic core of the microorganism and rearranges the DNA /RNA eliminating the microorganism's ability to reproduce. If the microorganism can no longer reproduce, it cannot replicate, therefore it cannot infect other organisms with which has contact. UV has proven to be a quick, reliable and cost effective method of disinfecting water for both point of use and point of entry. Learn more about Ultraviolet Water Purification here.
Selecting your UV System: The quality or appropriateness of both the UV light and of the 'contact ', are crucial to accomplish disinfection. It is important to properly 'size' the UV based upon the application. The contact disinfectant property of UV light energy is measured in microwatt-seconds per square centimeter (uw-sec/cm2). LOW PRESSURE lamps which are best suited for small intermittent flow applications. When selecting a system be aware of your use requirements (gallons per day) and your preferred flow rates. It is equally important to use a good pre-filter to remove any dirt or debris that may be present in the raw water supply. This dirt and debris can interfere with the effectiveness of the UV rays – virtually giving the microorganism a shield to protect them when passing the UV rays.
System manufacturers strongly recommend that any pre and post filters and the UV lamp be replaced on an annual basis or after 9,000 hours of use -- whichever comes first.
Not all UV Systems are created equally in terms of performance, quality and/or replacement component costs. ESP sells new systems as well offering replacement parts for the most widely recognized UV manufacturers presently in the market. We chose this group of manufacturers because we believe that they produce the best and most dependable systems on the market.
To Purchase a new UV System review available Brands listed below. You can also search by Brand for UV Replacement Bulbs and Lamps, UV Replacement Filters, and UV Replacement Parts. Each replacement component will be listed with the related system.

The Hydroflow Ultra Violet Light System comes in two models, the UV-4JT 4 watt 0.5 gallon per minute and the UV-6JT 6 watt 1.0 gallon per minute. These systems are self contained disposable models that are replaced after 12 months of service. They work well in point of use (POU) applications where a disposable system is preferred.
Intelifil Best used in Point Of Use (POU) Applications
The Intelifil Ultra Violet Light Systems are designed to be used in point of use applications (POU) such as residential water filtration and can be combined with reverse osmosis systems. The Intelifil is offered in two models the 4 watt UV-405 model with a flow rate of 0.5 and the 6 watt UV610 model with a flow rate of 1.0 gallon per minute. Intelifil models UV-405 and UV610 come in both 120 and 220 volt. It is recommended the UV lamp be replaced annually.
Microfilter Best used in Point Of Use (POU) Applications
Microfilter Ultra Violet Light Systems had been formerly manufactured under two previous names Omnipure Pacific and Nais. There are two models the OPP-UV4W and OPP-UV6W. The systems both have replaceable UV lamps. The OPP-UV4W is rated at 4 watts while the OPP-UV6W has a 6 watt rating. Both models are used in point of use applications as standard alone units as well as with other methods of filtration such as residential filtration and reverse osmosis systems.
Pentek Best used in Point Of Use (POU) Applications
Pentek point of use UV systems are ideal in applications where a simple disposable UV system is required. Rather than an annual lamp replacement the system is simply replaced after 12 months of continuous use. The Pentek systems come complete with ¼” quick connect fittings for ease of installation and are available in both 0.5 and 1 gallon per minute flow rates.
Pura Offers a wide range of products for both Point of Use (POU) and Point of Entry (POE) Applications
Pura UV is recognized for both its basic simplicity as well as its performance. Offering systems with flow rates ranging from 1 through15 gallon per minute PURA products cover the full spectrum of systems for both point of use and point of entry requirements. The PURA UVB, UV20 & UVBB models are available in a single, double and three stage filter housing designs which providing both filtration and UV protection in a single unit. Several models also offer audible warning alarms or power outage solenoid valves.
QMP605 Best used in Point Of Use (POU) Applications - Countertop
Effective in killing bacteria on contact. Uses a specially designed lining in a 1 micron+ carbon block cartridge. The UV lamp is enclosed in a Quartz sleeve. The lamp is replaceable, uses 10 watts and is estimated to last 9000 hours (MADE in USA). The transformer has an indicator light which goes out when the lamp is burned out. Available in 110 volts or 220 volts, 50/60 Hz.
Sun Pure Best used in Point Of Use (POU) Applications
UltraSun Technologies manufactures their UV systems under the brand name Sun Pure (see below)
