How do I know if the RQ-500 is the right sleeve for my system?
A:
Check the model number on your system's nameplate. The RQ-500 fits LR5-355, LR6-355, and their low-UVT "-50" variants. If your model has a "LB" or "LBH" prefix, you have a residential BLACKCOMB system and need a different sleeve.
Q:
Can I clean my quartz sleeve instead of replacing it?
A:
Yes, in many cases. Luminor recommends wiping the sleeve with a scale remover like CLR or Lime-A-Way and a soft, lint-free cloth at least once a year, more often if you have hard water or high iron and manganese levels. Keep moisture out of the sleeve's interior during cleaning and let it dry completely before reinstalling.
Q:
How do I know when cleaning isn't enough and I need a new sleeve?
A:
If the sleeve stays cloudy or has a persistent white film after cleaning, or if you notice scratches or pitting on the surface, cleaning won't restore it and it's time to replace it. Physical damage to the quartz can't be cleaned away, and a scratched or pitted sleeve won't transmit UV-C the way it should. Even without visible damage, we recommend replacing the sleeve every 24 months as routine maintenance, since UV transmission can decline gradually in ways that aren't obvious just by looking at it.

What happens if I keep using a scaled or cloudy sleeve instead of replacing it?
A:
UV-C has to pass through the sleeve to reach the water, so scale buildup or cloudiness reduces how much disinfecting UV dose actually gets delivered, even with a healthy lamp inside. Left long enough, this can drop UV output below what your system needs for effective treatment.
Q:
Will a non-Luminor replacement sleeve work in my Rainier system?
A:
It may physically fit, but Luminor systems are certified as a complete lamp-and-system unit, and sleeve wall thickness and quartz quality affect how much UV-C reaches the water. A non-Luminor sleeve can change that dose and can affect your warranty if an issue comes up.
