Luminor LB5-101B Blackcomb 5.1 UV System NSF Class B 13 GPM

The Luminor LB5-101B BLACKCOMB 5.1 is a UV water treatment system certified to NSF/ANSI 55 Class B. With its built-in flow restrictor it is rated at 13 GPM (49.2 L/min) at a UV dose of 16 mJ/cm² and 70% UV transmittance. Class B systems provide supplemental bactericidal treatment of water that is already considered safe to drink, such as treated municipal water, reducing normally occurring non-pathogenic nuisance microorganisms. It uses a 39-watt UV lamp in a polished 304 stainless steel chamber, with 3/4-inch MNPT connections.

How it works and alerts you

The full-colour LCD BLACKCOMB 5.1 controller shows remaining lamp life, diagnostics and fault messages, gives a yellow caution 30 days before the lamp expires and an audible and visual alarm at lamp failure, and shows a service reminder every 6 months. Its Infinite Expandability Port (IEP) accepts an optional RS-B2.5 UV intensity sensor and Luminor modules such as MOD-SOL, MOD-420, MOD-RAM, MOD-SHERPA and the LFM flow meter. The controller reports lamp status; it does not by itself confirm the water is safe to drink, so Luminor recommends testing your water for microbiological contaminants regularly.

Class B vs. Class A

Class B is not intended for water with known contamination. For untreated well water or other microbiologically unsafe supplies, choose an NSF/ANSI 55 Class A system such as the BLACKCOMB-HO 6.1 LBH6-251A or LBH6-401A.

Why the rating is 13 GPM

The standard LB5-101 is rated 11 GPM at 30 mJ/cm² and 95% UVT. The Class B rating uses a lower dose (16 mJ/cm²) at lower water clarity (70% UVT), and the integral flow restrictor holds flow to the certified 13 GPM. Do not remove the flow restrictor.

Water quality requirements

• Luminor strongly recommends a 5-micron sediment prefilter before the UV system
• Hardness under 7 gpg (soften above this); pH 6.5-8.5
• Iron under 0.3 ppm, manganese under 0.05 ppm, tannins under 0.1 ppm, turbidity under 1 NTU
• UV transmittance above 85% (contact Luminor below 80% for pretreatment advice)

Maintenance and replacement parts
