Step-by-Step Guide: Replacing an AXEON Commercial RO Membrane

How to Replace an AXEON Commercial RO Membrance

How to Replace an AXEON Commercial RO Membrane: A Technical Guide

Replacing the reverse osmosis (RO) membrane in your AXEON commercial system is a critical maintenance task to ensure optimal water purification and system performance. Follow this step-by-step guide tailored for a technical audience to complete the process efficiently.

For specifics on how to replace your membrane, please refer to your AXEON system’s owner’s manual. Find your AXEON RO system owner’s manual.

Before You Get Started

  1. Gather Tools and Materials

    1. New AXEON RO membrane.
    2. Properly sized wrenches or spanners.
    3. Lubricant (compatible with RO systems, such as silicone-based).
    4. Clean gloves.
    5. Towels or rags for cleanup.

  2. Review Manufacturer Guidelines:

    1. Read the system manual to ensure compliance with specific requirements.

  3. Ensure Safety:

    1. Turn off the system and power supply.
    2. Close the water supply valve to prevent leaks.
    3. Relieve system pressure by opening a valve downstream or using the pressure release valve.

Disassembly Before Installing RO Membrane

  1. Depressurize the System

    1. Slowly depressurize the system to prevent sudden water bursts.

  2. Access the Pressure Vessel: :

    1. Locate the pressure vessel housing the membrane.
    2. Unscrew the end caps using the appropriate tools, taking care not to damage threads or seals.
  3. Remove the Old Membrane: :

    1. Grip the membrane stem and gently pull it out. If it resists, use pliers carefully to avoid damaging the housing.
    2. Inspect the removed membrane for signs of fouling, scaling, or damage, which may indicate pre-treatment issues.

Cleaning and Inspection

  1. Inspect the Pressure Vessel:

    1. Check the housing for debris, biofilm, or scaling.
    2. Clean the housing thoroughly with an appropriate cleaning solution if necessary.

  2. Examine O-Rings and Seals:

    1. Inspect O-rings for wear or damage. Replace them if necessary to ensure a proper seal.

Commercial RO Membrane Installation Instructions

  1. Prepare the New Membrane:

    1. Unpack the new AXEON membrane and inspect it for visible defects.
    2. Apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to the O-rings and brine seal for easier installation.

  2. Insert the Membrane:

    1. Slide the membrane into the pressure vessel, ensuring proper orientation. Follow the directional arrow or guidelines provided in the manual.

  3. Replace End Caps:

    1. Secure the end caps tightly but avoid over-tightening, which can damage the threads or seals.

  4. Reconnect the System:

    1. Reattach any piping or fittings to the pressure vessel.

Maintaining Your AXEON RO System

  1. Temperature Correction: Adjust the permeate flow to account for temperature variations by applying the temperature correction factor specified in the system manual. This factor compensates for changes in temperature that can affect the osmotic pressure, thereby altering the permeating flow rate. By using the correction factor, you ensure accurate flow measurements and system efficiency under varying temperature conditions.
Maintenance Visual

    b. Regularly inspect pre-filters and change them as needed to protect the RO membrane.

    c. Monitor operating pressures and perform routine cleaning to prolong membrane life.

    d. Keep spare O-rings and seals on hand for quick replacements.

By following these steps, you can ensure a smooth and efficient replacement of your AXEON commercial RO membrane, maintaining optimal system performance.
